For close to half a century, Seattle’s skyline was dominated by two towers: Smith Tower and the red brick clock tower of the King Street Station. To the observant eye, Smith Tower looks decidedly American, but, by Seattle standards, the station’s tower looks, well, sort of out of character – and that’s because its an Italian reproduction job.

The distinctive appeal of the recently renovated tower at King Street Station, a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, is because it is modelled after the famous bell tower in Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy.
