A life-size vinyl Volkswagon slumping under its own weight. An Andy Warhol screenprinted portrait of Marilyn Monroe. A Roy Lichtenstein painting from 1961 called ON. These are just some of the highlights of Pop Departures — a new exhibition on now at the Seattle Art Museum.

Pop Art’s influence continues to be felt more than a half century since its advent, as pioneered by icons of the pop art movement, such as Warhol, Lichtenstein, Robert Indiana, and Claes Oldenburg – but the show at SAM goes further, too, with works of later generations, including Lynn Hershman Leeson, Jeff Koons and Barbara Kruger.

The show is one not to be missed (or, indeed, slept through, as in this photo!) if you are in the area, and runs Oct. 9 to Jan. 11 2015.
