Coming up this weekend is the not-to-be-missed Capitol Hill Block Party, a 3-day music and arts festival, celebrating Seattle’s arts and music center, Capitol Hill.  CHBP takes over six city blocks for 3 days in the heart of this iconic and diverse Seattle neighborhood, and showcases over 100 local and national artists. And all in a unique urban setting: the clubs, bars and restaurants within the gates participate and add another diverse element to the festival.

Everyone with a gig spot is busy right now festooning posters advertising where and when they’re performing at CHBP. I caught up with one who turned out to be quite a character: Rapper Smar-T JoneS from Arkansas. He’s been performing now for 3 years and has done 7 tours, including one in Canada, and one in Ireland (he promised me he’d do Scotland soon!).

He’s also sold more than 15000 CDs hand to hand at different festivals and downtown areas across the country. I’m not surprised he’s sold so many CDs this way, because when I bumped into him earlier this week, he gave a superb impromptu street performance of one of his songs to an intimate audience of just three: Scotty Guy, Ice Cream Cone Guy and Guy Who Has Already Bought And Liked Guy, as Mr Smar-T JoneS described us as.

He’s definitely one to lookout for. Checkout his site now by clicking It’s also worth a small investment (name your own price!) to downed his latest album, Audio-Biographical Substance.
