Seattle Seahawks’ fans are known as “The 12th Man,” and officially the Guinness World record-breaking loudest in the NFL, compelling the League to establish a noise rule in 1985. Despite the rule, the 12th Man continues, giving the Seahawks a home field advantage, but it remains to be seen whether fans will match that home field advantage against the Denver Broncos in Sunday’s Super Bowl at MetLife stadium in New Jersey.

But Seattle sports – whether it be the Hawks, Mariners or Sounders at soccer – has a higher than average number of women supporters at all events, and some of the fairer sex are rightly getting a tad disgruntled with the 12th Man tag that a small group of ‘wimmin’ folk in the liberal city have started a campaign for it to be the more politically correct “The 12th Person.”

The azure 12 flag can be seen all around Seattle in the past week or so, from a giant flag atop of the Space Needle, to draping from the sides of just about every downtown building, and even small planes regularly flying across Puget Sound and the Seattle skyline trailing one behind them. I really don’t care whether it’s 12th Man or 12th Person – just Go Hawks!
